Substance Use Prevention

MA Opioid Abuse Prevention Collaborative (MOAPC)

The collaborative is focused on a number of strategies to prevent the onset of substance use related to opioids and to reduce overdose fatalities. Here is a brief outline of the subject areas that are being given attention too in efforts to address opioid use/misuse.

Prevention of substance use:

  • Ease of access to prescription medications
  • Parent enabling and favorable attitudes toward substances
  • Stigma of substance use disorder

Prevention of Overdose:

  • Access to Naloxone
  • Providing treatment information, referrals and linkages to support

MA Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative (SAPC)

Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative (SAPC) is a state grant focused on preventing underage alcohol use through policy, practice, systems, and environmental change.

A year long assessment was completed in June 2016.

Parental Attitudes Favorable Toward Underage Drinking

Strategy: Media Campaign

Laws and Policies Favorable Toward Alcohol and Drug Use

Strategies:

Education about effective alcohol policies

Education on current alcohol regulation and enforcement

Increased enforcement of alcohol related laws and ordinances

Compliance checks

Education for school administrators on effective policies

Regional Tobacco Control
